Five Art YouTubers I Can’t Stop Watching
In my last blog post, I spoke about the importance of inspiration for maintaining your creative spark, and where I find such inspiration.
I watch YouTube every single day - when I’m drinking my coffee in the morning, when I’m getting ready for the day, and when I’m exercising. It’s a constant source of learning and new ideas, and watching videos while completing important tasks makes it feel less like wasted time and more like productivity.
I like to watch channels that align with my creative interests. Think Andrew Huang and Adam Neely for music, Babish and the Bon Appetit team for cooking, and the beauty community for learning to cry on camera. There really is something for every need.
So today I’m going to share five artists I follow on YouTube. They each are incredibly motivated, implement cool processes, and produce amazing finished results.
Without further ado, let’s jump into the list. In no particular order:
1. Semiskimmedmin
Minnie is a traditional artist from England. Her calm voice is lovely to listen to, and her sketchbook sessions are the perfect thing to have on in the background on a chill weeknight.
Some of my favourite work from Minnie comes from her 2017 Inktober series: houses and the things that haunt them.
2. Ten Hundred
Peter channels a combination of different styles (street art, anime, and comic books, to name a few) into some of the most imaginative and vibrant artworks I’ve seen to date.
His colours are wild, and the line quality of every piece is incredible. I’ve also never seen such smooth blending on an acrylic painting.
Check out Ten Hun’s channel for murals, smaller-scale paintings, and digital illustrations.
3. Subjectively
This channel satisfies the total nerd in me.
The whole team is great, but I particularly love the time-lapses and informative videos posted by Jack.
He really delves into the concepts and ideas behind character design, and produces an incredibly polished finished product every time.
4. Slew
Slew is a new discovery for me, and I’m stoked to have stumbled across him.
His channel features some different ways of working than I’m used to, like stencilling and a notable use of symmetry - crazy inspiring!
The production quality of every video is always outstanding too (he’s also a videographer), with great footage of his artistic method and the studio space.
5. FurryLittlePeach
To finish this list, I thought we’d round it out with a fellow Aussie! Meet Sha’an (aka furrylittlepeach).
Sha’an’s characters are unbelievably cute, and her consistent colour palette is sure to enhance your Insta feed’s aesthetic.
Beyond her artwork, Sha’an herself exudes an infectious joy that just puts you in a good mood. Definitely some uplifting content.
So who are your favourite artists? Let me know in the comments below, I’m always keen to find a new obsession.
